Ingredients

For the syrup:

  • 2 cups sugar 
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For the dough:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon of carbonate
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 tbsp margarine
  • 250 g unsalted fresh feta cheese

For garnishing:

  • Desiccated coconut

Instructions

  1. To prepare the syrup, put the water and sugar in a pot and boil. Add lemon juice and boil. Until it rises twice.
  2. Remove it from the stove and let it cool.
  3. Grate the unsalted, fresh white cheese.
  4. Separate 2 spoons of flour for later use, sift the remaining flour, and put it into a large tray.
  5. Make a carrot shape in the center, and add eggs and carbonate.
  6. Add 4 tablespoons of cheese and margarine (softened at room temperature) and knead for 3–4 minutes.
  7. Divide the dough into 18 pieces and roll them in your hands, lightly covering them with the flour you have separated.
  8. Place the dough pieces on the oiled baking tray, spaced between each other.
  9. Bake in a preheated 180-degree oven for 20–25 minutes until they turn pink.
  10. Put the cooked dough balls into the warm syrup and boil for about 15 minutes until they soften.
  11. Remove them with a colander and place them on a serving plate. When it cools down, you can decorate with desiccated coconut. Bon appetit!
