  1. Combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a mixing bowl and mix well.
  2. Gradually add water while mixing until you get a soft dough that does not stick to the bowl.
  3. Knead the dough for 10 minutes, then turn the dough out onto a lightly floured counter.
  4. Divide the dough into six equal pieces.
  5. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  6. Take three equal pieces of the rested dough and roll them out on the floured countertop with the help of a rolling pin to the size of a plate.
  7. Spread the butter in the center of the rolled-out dough.
  8. Roll out the remaining doughs in the same way, butter them, and place them on top of each other.
  9. Grease the top of the dough, turn it upside down, and place it on a plate. Cover it again and let it rest for another 50 minutes.
  10. Take one of the rested doughs and roll it out as thin as possible with a rolling pin.
  11. Shape the dough into a square envelope, and then roll it into a cylinder.
  12. Do the same with the other dough; divide it into 4 pieces, shape each piece slightly with the open ends facing upwards, and press them into circular shapes.
  13. Do not flatten the tops too much and place them on the baking sheet. Cover with cling film and rest for 20–30 minutes.
  14. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown on top and bottom.
  15. The baked boyoz are ready to serve. Bon Appetit.
  Serving Suggestions

Boyoz is a great accompaniment to many dishes. You can serve it with salads, soups, or meals.

  Expert Tips
  • When preparing the dough, adjust the water accordingly to get a soft and smooth consistency that does not stick to your hands.
  • After kneading and shaping the dough, let it rest. This allows the gluten to release and makes the dough easier to work with.
  • When greasing the dough, avoid brushing the edges.
  • You can freeze the shaped and uncooked boyoz for later use.
