Ingredients

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 cups of semolina
  • 1/2 cup of orange juice
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

For the filling:

  • 2 tablespoons of honey or molasses
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1 cup of crushed almonds

For the syrup:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of honey
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Instructions

  1. For the dough, put the flour, semolina, salt, cinnamon, powdered sugar, and baking powder in a bowl.
  2. Add oil and orange juice, and knead the dough.
  3. When you get dough that does not stick to your hands, cover it and rest it for 30 minutes.
  4. For the filling, put the almonds in a bowl and mix them with honey and cinnamon.
  5. After flouring the countertop, cut the dough into open and rectangular pieces.
  6. Put the filling on the long side of the dough and wrap it as a roll. Slice the rolls into 3 cm-wide slices.
  7. Shape them by pressing lightly with the palm of your hand, and repeat this process until all the dough is used up.
  8. Bake the macrouds in a preheated 180-degree oven until golden brown, about 25 minutes.
  9. For the syrup, put the honey and water in a saucepan and mix. When it starts to boil, add the lemon juice and boil for another 5 minutes.
  10. Pour the syrup over the hot desserts coming out of the oven and allow them to absorb it for 20 minutes.
  11. You can serve your dessert after it cools down. Enjoy your meal.
Serving Suggestions

Sprinkle sesame seeds on the outside, and serve.
