Serving Suggestions
  • You can make the dish crunchy by sprinkling it with breadcrumbs or panko crumbs.
  • Finely chopped fresh dill or chives will add extra flavor to the sauce.
Expert Tips
  • You should choose fish with meaty flesh that is not too oily, such as salmon, cod, or smoked haddock.
  • It is best to use fresh, seasonal fish when possible, but you can also use frozen fish as long as you defrost it first. Using fish that is not properly defrosted can lead to a mushy fish pie.
  • When adding the milk, bring it to a boil, stirring to avoid lumps and sticking to the bottom of the pan.
