Especially consumed in Lebanese, Israeli, and Palestinian cuisine, this delicacy consists of a mixture of chickpeas and breadcrumbs. Falafel is served with meals as an appetizer. Round-shaped falafels are served after being fried in hot oil.

Ingredients

  • 400 g boiled chickpeas
  • 2 pearl onions
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Half a bunch of parsley
  • 1 tbsp. fresh coriander
  • 2 tsp. cumin
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 tbsp. water
  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • 1 tbsp. breadcrumbs
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper

For covering with:

  • Breadcrumbs

For frying:

  • Sunflower oil

For serving:

  • 6 pita breads

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the parsley and cilantro. Put the boiled chickpeas in a food processor and blend for 30 seconds.
  2. Add onion, garlic, parsley, coriander, cumin, salt, black pepper, baking powder, and water, and blend for 10 seconds.
  3. Put the mixture in a bowl. Add flour and breadcrumbs and knead. Pick walnut-sized pieces from the dough and roll them into small ball shapes.
  4. Cover with breadcrumbs and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. Heat the sunflower oil in a pan and fry the meatballs until golden. Place the meatballs on pita bread and serve with salad. Enjoy your meal.
