Ingredients

For the onion sauce:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 medium onions (peeled and finely chopped)
  • 2 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar
  • Half a liter of broth
  • 4 tsp cold water
  • 4 tsp corn flour (or cornstarch)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt

For the mash:

  • 2 potatoes (peeled and quartered)
  • 110 grams of butter
  • 6 tbsp milk
  • Salt

For the sausage:

  • 8 thick sausages
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. First, start with the onion sauce. Melt the butter and vegetable oil in a large skillet.
  2. Add the finely chopped onions, cover, and cook over low heat for about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the granulated sugar and balsamic vinegar, cover, and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Then add the broth. Leave the lid open and boil for 5 minutes.
  5. Add cold water and cornstarch to a heat-resistant bowl and mix. Bring it to a paste-like consistency.
  6. Pour some of the sauce you prepared into the cornstarch mixture and let it warm up a bit.
  7. Then add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce. Increase the heat and cook until the gravy thickens, about 10 minutes.
  8. Season with salt and pepper. Keep it warm until serving.
  9. For the mashed potatoes, put the potatoes in a pot and add water.
  10. Boil the potatoes like this until they are soft. You can test the softness with a fork.
  11. When the potatoes are cooked, drain the water and keep it warm by closing the lid.
  12. For the sausage, add oil to a pan and fry the sausages in this pan until cooked on all sides.
  13. Place the sausages in the oven and keep warm until the potatoes are ready.
  14. Add the milk and butter to the pot where you boiled the potatoes. Add the boiled potatoes to it.
  15. Mash the potatoes with a fork by reheating them very slightly and mash them to a puree consistency.
  16. Divide the mashed potatoes into 4 serving plates.
  17. Add two sausages to the mashed potatoes. Then pour the onion sauce over the sausage and mashed potatoes. Enjoy your meal.
