  1. First, start with the onion sauce. Melt the butter and vegetable oil in a large skillet.
  2. Add the finely chopped onions, cover, and cook over low heat for about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the granulated sugar and balsamic vinegar, cover, and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Then add the broth. Leave the lid open and boil for 5 minutes.
  5. Add cold water and cornstarch to a heat-resistant bowl and mix. Bring it to a paste-like consistency.
  6. Pour some of the sauce you prepared into the cornstarch mixture and let it warm up a bit.
  7. Then add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce. Increase the heat and cook until the gravy thickens, about 10 minutes.
  8. Season with salt and pepper. Keep it warm until serving.
  9. For the mashed potatoes, put the potatoes in a pot and add water.

  16. Divide the mashed potatoes into 4 serving plates.
